Q & A ~ Knowledge Center
Q ~ How long does it take to play a game? A ~ There is no set time on how long an Island Hop game will last due to the nature of the game and the “luck” factor involved. If you have an extremely lucky person amongst you and they get ten straight passport checkmarks, well the game will be over in fifteen minutes. If there’s not a single lucky person amongst you, the game could last for a couple hours or more. Q ~ My die deflated, what should I do? A ~ Well hopefully as the warnings state, you didn’t use it as a floatation device because in that case, you should tread water! On a serious note, the die WILL deflate after a some what lengthy period of time, due to its enormous size and in the manner it is being used/thrown. Continuously hitting and rolling across the ground will displace the air causing it to slowly leak out. This is normal, don’t panic. BUT with that said, your die SHOULD last through an entire game without becoming too flat to roll. If the deflation of your NEW die is quick (within minutes) then you have a faulty die and it must be replaced. Contact us immediately at customerservice@islandhop.net and you will be assisted ASAP. Replacement die will not be sent if the die in question is new. Abusive acts beyond that of normal game play: i.e. Roughed up on asphalt, being sat on, bounced on like a trampoline, etc. will cause the die to lose air much faster or not hold air at all. The die requires TLC. Extreme cold temperature changes will cause the die to deflate quite rapidly as well. Q ~ Where can the game be played? A ~ Anywhere indoors or outdoors, rain or shine, but NOT in wind!!! You will lose your die definitely if the wind is gusting, and probably lose your Floor Markers too. Yes, they will all blow away, and your party will be chasing them down the beach, neighborhood, field, etc. The die is designed to be played indoors and outdoors on pretty much any surface; Grass, sand, dirt, hardwood floors, tiles, carpet, etc., etc., etc. Rough surfaces such an asphalt street are not recommended as they will tear up the die. Q ~ Can I get additional passports, die, markers, etc.? A ~ Yes. Additional game pieces can be bought in the Island Hop Gifts & Gear Shop HERE. We offer two packs of die, individual Island Markers or the entire set, additional passports in sets of 10, 25, and 50, Island Hop Certificates, T-shirts, etc. Q ~ What counts as a “skipped turn” in the airport? A ~ All main rolls of the game die count as a skipped turn. The only roll that is not considered as a main roll is the roll immediately following an “ISLAND HOP” roll that you roll to get the passport check-mark. i.e. We roll the die and it lands on “ISLAND HOP”. That roll counts as a skipped turn and everyone can move in the airport. The travelers on “SKIP 1 TURN” can now exit the airport and go to an Island Marker. The die is picked up and now needs to be rolled for the passport check-mark. This roll DOES NOT count as a “main roll” or skipped turn and no one in the airport is permitted to move nor is anyone at an Island Marker permitted to change islands. Q ~ What happens if more than one person finishes at the same time? How is the tie broken? A ~ Everyone that was playing leaves the playing area except for the Island Hoppers that tied for the win. These Island Hoppers each select an Island Marker to stand on, and they stay on that island (no island hopping during the tie-breaker). The die is rolled and whichever islands are showing the Island Hoppers on those islands are out. The last Island Hopper on an island is the winner of the game. REMEMBER: There are two islands on each side of the die. IF you have five or fewer Island Hoppers that have tied, each one must pick a different island from each of the five sides of the die, and not on one that matches up to someone else.
